London Calling

Hello people of the internet,

How are you all? Not too stressed about the impending exam season I hope although probably untrue. For my birthday I was very luck to be given, by a large group of friends, tickets to see Les Mis in the West End. I saw the film when it was released and instantly fell in love with the story and the music. I spent a lot of time watching videos of performances from things like the 10th anniversary and without a doubt would be balling by the end of certain songs such as One Day More.

So having been given the tickets I decided to make a bit more of a day of it and took my little brother along. As we left the cinema he said "I don't get it," and so I dragged him along, most willingly, to London. Now getting to London from where we live is no easy feat. You have to get a train to a major station in London which is fine and takes just over an hour. But then to get to the nearest station you have to get a lift or a bus and then once you're in London it's on multiple tubes to get to the right place. This is probably no different for anyone else trying to get into London but for a girl who lives in the middle of nowhere and has to get a lift or drive everywhere it seems like a lot of effort. Plus I never have any money and London is not cheap.

Anyways we got on the train and sat there for an hour in fairly stony silence as the train gradually filled up. We get on at one of the first stations so luckily had a seat. My brother gets the train on a regular basis so this was no big deal for him but I won't lie to you it was quite exciting to sit on a train for all of half an hour. Then I was bored and the silence we surround ourselves with did nothing to cure the boredom.

Then we arrived in London and trecked our way through Victoria to the tube and headed for the museums. Exiting the station we were cheerfully informed by someone from the natural history museum that the que was at least an hour long. I'm way too impatient for that so we headed down the road to the V and A which the brother hated. I placated him by sitting in the cafe for half an hour before wandering round to see the pretty things. He wasn't particularly impressed by a lot of things but he didn't seem to mind too much.

Then the Pièce de résistance. Les Misérables. It was incredible. So much better than I hoped and I cried. A lot.; But I cry at everything, I mean everything. Especially if things are happy. Now I've seen the entire musical online through the multiple concerts that the ever changing cast that have been put on but to see the acting and hear the songs live and in front of you was amazing. The only tiny flaw in the entire thing was the small children in front of us who couldn't sit still and kept moving which would end up blocking the stage so then we would keep shifting to see.

But it was fabulous and even my brother loved it. I will definitely be going again and would quite happily go tomorrow.
